Executive Summary
This document is both a study and a project report that is focused on improving the business resiliency of Information Technology Business Process Outsourcing (IT-BPO) Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Philippines. The associated cost of implementing an effective Business Continuity Management (BCM) system is believed to be prohibitive. However, the result of this project should prove otherwise. Even industry practitioners and experts agree that a BCM could actually help small-sized businesses survive in today's highly competitive market. In-depth discussion of the BCM and its components can be found in this report as well as general recommendations for the creation of a BCM plan. The results of this study highlight the organization leadership's responsibility in both planning and implementation of BCM systems. Less than half of local BPOs have effective BCM plans, despite being an important part of strategic planning. The scenarios show extremely dire consequences for organizations that do not plan or practice business resiliency measures, which usually ends with permanent closure. Based on the findings, analysis and recommendations focus on available technologies for solutions that can be used to increase system stability and business competitiveness. Estimated costs for implementing a BCM system are also provided.
