Executive Summary

One of the leading SAP consulting firm in the country is the organization under study for this project. Hewlett Packard Asia Pacific for the past 8 years has been able to provide SAP consulting and implementation services to one of the world's largest manufacturing company of consumer goods and is continuously moving into other industry sectors as well. The organization aims to grow and the resources are committed to improve and enhance their technological capabilities. As the organization is moving towards innovation and capability building, there are internal activities to aid and supplement such endeavors. Warehouse, Procurement and Product Lifecycle Management Solution (WPPS) is one of the leading sub organization under the SAP practice umbrella of the company. With the increasing demand to improve efficiency and productivity in the manufacturing environment, the need to implement more modules of SAP is required. Much of the basic modules have been implemented and processes are already stable. In this scenario, the organization aims to look into the other modules that clients can benefit from and become a SAP consulting firm with a complete portfolio. With this objective in mind, the organization would be undergoing organizational innovation in terms of its structure. Three business units will be created and Product Lifecycle Management business unit will be the component we will be analyzing. Focus will be on the activities currently being done and other steps the management team could take for the efficient transition of the PLM business unit. Currently there are two modules, quality management and plant maintenance, under the PLM business units and the organization is looking into adding more modules to complete the manufacturing process SAP service portfolio. Restructuring the organization is the first step in moving towards this endeavor. The initial steps and activities will determine the direction and future condition of the organization. Analysis will be based on theoretical frameworks and important concepts of the organization. Recommended steps for the management will also come from literature reviews and other management practices for other organization. The concepts that will be used are mainly focused on the organizational restructuring activities and will not include technological innovations. Observing the current state of the organization, we could say that initial activities done are a good starting point for the long term plans of the organization. Though there are some minor missteps, overall the organization is equipped with the right resources, strategic plan and management support to complete the objective. Though it will take time to complete all the steps, the idea is to build on the initial momentum and move forward.
