Executive Summary
The
assessment of the TM study focused on the existing PhD-TM being offered by the
Technological University of the Philippines (TUP), the UP-TMC's program in the
Master of Technology Management program and that of the selected foreign
universities and institutions offering the PhD-TM program. Foreign institutions
with its resources and capability further strengthens its program through
consortium, linkages, sharing of faculty capability, resource materials and
affiliation with other international universities not only for its advantages
but also to that of its students enrolled in the technology programs being
offered by the foreign institution. The TM programs offered by UP-TMC (MTM) and
TUP (PhD-TM) both have identified needs in terms of infrastructure, adequate
facilities, resource materials, infrastructure, and needed linkages may adopt
some of the foreign institution's strategies. The assessments across both of
UP-TMC's MTM and TUP's PhD-TM would focus on the quality of faculty, admission
criteria of students and curriculum offered. A general assessment of the two
institutions graduate program's capability in their offering of the technology
management discipline to evaluate the status quo and to identify the future
needs of their corresponding programs in comparison with their international
counterparts. Using the template of IAMOT-TIM BoK, an analysis was done to
determine the specialized fields of TM studies in the Philippines and their
supporting curricula. Major areas of specialization were identified to be a
part of the curriculum for the in depth study and research. This is to better
provide the industry with key personnel for its management team and developing
its competitiveness through knowledge acquisition and innovation and to be at
par with other ASEAN economies. The development of faculties and academic
researchers both highly trained and experts in the identified area of expertise
for sustainability of TM as an interdisciplinary field. The idea is not only to
identify the institutional needs for both TM programs in the Philippines but
also to identify the common set of core subjects that a doctoral student in TM
needs to master, in terms of the depth of treatment of the topics.
