Executive Summary
This
special project is to explore the knowledge transfer practices of Safeway
Philtech Inc.'s Technology Solutions Group (TSG) in order to identify success factors
and pitfalls, and to propose significant guidelines and procedures for its
implementation. To accomplish this purpose, the theoretical investigative
framework has been adapted from Nieburg & Bruckner (2009) using current and
relevant research on the topic. The theory served as a basis for the
identification of key areas and a reference for the questions raised to the
case department key resource persons. Then, the key areas are put together in a
theoretical investigative framework across all aspects of the knowledge
transfer in the case department, from TSG in the US (onshore) to TSG in Manila.
Case study results were analyzed according to the concepts and guidelines for
knowledge transfer presented by the theoretical investigative framework. By comparing
the case department's activities and approaches to knowledge transfer with the
concepts and guidelines presented by the framework, some of the most important
success factors and pitfalls for knowledge transfer for in-house offshore firms
were identified. Significant guidelines and procedures for implementing
knowledge transfer were consequently proposed. The conclusion includes
recommendations on how this study may be referenced for future knowledge
transfer activities by other departments in the said company or other in-house
offshore companies as well.
