Abstract

The study is entitled "Technologies in the Philippine Sports Industry : A Technology Assessment and Future directions in the next 5 to 10 years". This will be dealing with the current sports technology industry situation in the country. Moreover, this is a continuation of the researcher's study on the course TM 281 for "Sports Technology Foresight Planning".

On the study of Sports Technology Foresight Planning in the Philippines, it tackled the vision of "Leveraging technology in the Philippines to improve health and well-being to achieve ideal sports engagement by 2027". This involved three (3) main aspects of Philippine sports namely the government, the athletes, and audiences, all of which encompasses the sports ecosystem.

The study will focus on the equipment sector and sports scheduling sector. This will be closely dealing with the sports' governing bodies in the Philippines. According to David Banta, "Technology assessment has been defined as a form of policy research that examines short and long term consequences (for example, societal, economic, ethical, legal) of the application of technology. The goal of technology assessment was said to be to provide policy makers with information on policy alternatives." The study will look first at the current situation of sports in the country in terms of technology in the equipment or tools used; how these pieces of equipment are acquired and if there are any equipment used for the advancement of sports performance and audience engagement. Next is the sports scheduling, to address whether the people have the access of different sports and if there are any platforms for such. With that, this study assesses the current situation in those areas and will give a foresight of what the industry will be like in the next 5 to 10 years.

The output of this study will give an idea of what the Philippines currently have in terms of technology in equipment and in scheduling. This also targets to be of use to the athletes, coaches, and sports managers. The coverage of the project encompasses four (4) months of work and should be flexible based on the scope.
