Executive Summary
Company
XYZ has over 500 employees and has been in the Philippines for over 20 years
and is the pioneer in offshore development and maintenance. Some of the Company
XYZ Philippines certifications are ISO-9001 : 2000, CMMI Level 3, ISO 27001 :
2005. In order for the company to expand its current market, create new
opportunities and acquire new skills, it has to develop certain capabilities.
Company XYZ QA test automation capability has been steadily growing and
improving up to the point where they can be a Center of Excellence.
Establishing a Center of Excellence (COE) in Test Automation will incur
workforce and budget. The purpose of the study is to develop a strategy in
establishing a COE for test automation using technology audit and scenario
building. The study aimed to identify the objectives of Company XYZ towards
establishment of the center of excellence in test automation. It tried to
define the current technological capability of Company XYZ QA through
Technology Audit. It also analyzed the current and future situation of the
organization through Scenario Building and provided recommendation and
priorities for strategic planning on how to fulfill the establishment of the
center for excellence in test automation. Based from the result of the
technology audit, Company XYZ QA has an overall total of 3.5 which is between
good and average. It means that the company adheres to more than half of the
description set out in the elements and follows them most of the time. After
scenarios were generated, the study was able to determine the following priorities
for Strategic Planning which are stated below : Management Support including
Budget and Priority Setting Know what the company currently has (benchmark) in
terms of resources and capability then make decisions from there Give emphasis
to technology's role to the company as a whole and not just for the QA
capability through designation of technology gatekeepers and or chief
technology officer Improve the capability of the current resources by
strengthening technical skills through trainings and hands-on experience Hire
or train future test automation architects and manage tacit knowledge through
documentation and knowledge transfers Improve domain knowledge and conduct
feasibility studies on expanding current domains being served Make use of the
current QA laboratory for training, research and development.
