Executive Summary
With a
growing services sector and investment grade ratings, the Philippines is poised
for growth in the next decade and steadily shifting to becoming a knowledge
economy. The country's financial services sector is one of the largest
knowledge-based industries. The workforce in this sector is relatively highly
skilled translating to being the most intensive users of high technology. This
sector also relies heavily on its knowledge resources as its competitive
advantage. Using qualitative and quantitative data, the research explores
knowledge management best practices utilized by large financial services
institutions and surveys knowledge management and technology tools being used
by financial services organizations in Manila. While there exist a number of
knowledge management tools called by several names, these could be categorized
into two: technology (information management) and people management. There
could be no single recommended best practice in terms of establishing and
implementing a knowledge management strategy in a financial services
organization. However, awareness of how to effectively manage knowledge in the
company can help to retain its knowledge workforce and sustain development.
There is limited published research work on the subject in the Philippines so
there is significant room for further research on the topic.
