TalisayonAbstract
This project was conducted to determine the effect of Knowledge Management (KM) initiatives to the finished product inspection process of a foot manufacturing institution. An online KM assessment by the participants based in one of the commissaries of Apo Foods Corporation (AFC), and its external clients was done using a developed score sheet and questionnaire to establish the following : the top knowledge capability gap, and customer knowledge. This project also designed and implemented upgraded KM tools within the knowledge process based on the documented reports and studies. The effect of the project was measured based on the computed trend line using the finished product weight differences as dependent variable and time in days as independent variable.
The project found that the creators of the finished product inspection process served by initiating, implementing and monitoring the parameters of inspection of finished products. The scores given by the internal and external customers, fall within 85% and 90%. These customers have suggested checking and updating inspection-related results on certain or as needed frequencies. The top knowledge capability gap obtained according to the survey was : to document and periodically update important operations or work processes. In this project, the desired result was to make the departure of weight from the set standard weight decrease. This result was achieved during the pilot run wherein, numerous improvements of KM tools were put into action. The project has found out that 400kg to 1500kg of surplus weight per product can be saved during 10 to 13 days of application of improved KM tools. This project recommends determining objectively the effect of KM tools applied to other key business processes of the organization through top management support and involvement of key players to facilitate innovation.
