Abstract

Disruptions to business, whether the result of natural disasters, technology failures or human causes, can threaten the stability, if not the survival of an organization. The risks of business interruptions have further expanded as organizations increase their dependence on IT infrastructure and evolve into a linkage of networks with other organizations.

Over the years, businesses have recognized the need for BC plans yet it remains to be treated as a projectized endeavor which needs to be completed rather than being an operational process within the organization. BCPs are designed to mitigate operational risks, to reduce the impact of a disaster and to lessen the time to restore the business in a state of "business as usual".

This study proposes a simplified framework for conducting BCP. The framework is built upon the principles of business i.e. risk analysis, technology, process, people and the basic activities required to jumpstart an organization in building its BC arsenal and increase the likelihood of the business in making it through a crisis.
