Abstract
Industry in various sectors would likely go to the direction of adopting new trends in technology. Statistics show businesses have considered data to be their most valuable asset. Finding value in data has been the name of the game.
Big data, as one of the new trends in technology, poses a terrific opportunity for growth in the business and our way of living. The modern market though is not yet saturated with the use of this technology. On a positive note, this presents a good opportunity to dominate other parts of the industry that are not yet covered by this technology such as the humbled SME in the food and beverage sector.
This study conducted a research on the common problems and issues that hinder SME from adopting big data and analytics. Through interviews with SME in food and beverages, the proponent identified areas requiring improvements that can be solved by analytics. Further, the study provided a big data design suitable to the needs and capacity of SME and a probable solution that can be adopted at a very low cost.
The success rate of SME in the world of analytics is very promising due to the arising services such as Platform-as-a-Service or anything-as-a-service. These cloud computing services allow customers to develop, run, and manage applications without high maintenance and complexity of building infrastructure. As such, the proponent explored the benefit of this technology as part of the solution to be showcased to SME.
