Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals are a set of goals established by the United Nations as a call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that people will have peace and prosperity. Recently, social entrepreneurs are creating a massive impact to help achieve these goals and for some, technology has been one of the key drivers that scaled their social impact to greater heights.

In the Philippines, social enterprises are being noticed globally. Rags2Riches is considered as one of the most famous and successful social enterprises in the Philippines and has paved the way for new social entrepreneurs to immerge. However, there is still a struggle for new entrants in scaling their businesses and establishing their identities in the market.

The Lean Methodology has been widely adapted by startups as a practice in managing their businesses. This study aims to provide social entrepreneurs a framework in which they may follow from the idea phase to the commercialization stage.

Nowadays, technology is a necessity and for businesses that does not adopt a technology, tend to deliver their customer value much slower. A technology framework is a set of principles, processes, and even system functionalities that serves as a structural template for the system applications of an organization. In this study, the technology adoption framework will serve as a technological guide for social enterprises that proposes to substitute their manual operations with an existing technology platform. Instead of building a new system application from scratch, emerging social enterprises can use the available platforms we have today.

The proposed framework will identify the three main activities of a social enterprise; from forming the social impact to operating the social enterprise. By using the business model and value chain analysis, the author had a one-on-one interview with the correspondents to know more about their business processes, customer segments, challenges, and their value propositions.

It is also important to understand the problems these entrepreneurs have compared to traditional businesses. The result should be a basis for new policies that will help social entrepreneurs in terms of legalities, funding, partnerships, and distributing their products and services to the global market. The study includes six interviews from the resource persons of each social enterprises and collates all existing technological platforms and organizations wherein they can integrate their existing business process.
