Abstract
Broadband is now considered as the fourth major utility aside from water, gasoline and electricity. Majority of the Filipinos today use the internet for day to day transactions. It can be as acquiring their primary needs such as food delivery, purchasing clothes from an online store, browsing a new apartment to live in, or simply book a Grab to travel from one place to another. Given these situations, it is imperative to live with internet, else we will be back to primitive era. This is the case in the urban area here in the Philippines where citizens do things in manual approach.
There are many challenges that we need to address while implementing the National Broadband Plan, one is that Philippines is composed of different islands and building a network infrastructure is a huge predicament to our supply targets. Another challenge that we need to address is by connecting the rural areas to broadband, including the non-adopters which are the senior citizens, less educated, and low income levels in the society. This is to ensure that no Filipino citizen will be left behind.
This study will present the status of the National Broadband Plan in the country, analyze and assess the objectives, the level of detail of the NBP in comparison to the other Asian countries' NBP, and the specific measures that countries plan to implement.
Furthermore, this study will emphasize the importance of investing in the broadband plan to inform, shape and influence policy priorities in the country. Finally, this study will conclude with some recommendations to advance the broadband progress in the Philippines.
