Abstract

Scaled Agile Framework aims to combine Lean and Agile throughout every level of an organization in order to deliver quality products. This study assesses the journey of an organization's transition from a traditional Agile to SAFe. With any kind of transition, drawbacks could outweigh the possible benefits. The organization needs to start the adaptation to the new framework prepared. This paper will serve as a guide for future organizations that will undergo the same transition through lessons learned from this organization's experience.

It was found that the SAFe Implementation Roadmap is the key tool that the organization should monitor but despite this it is not enough and is prone to many misinterpretations. According to the interviews and surveys, because of such misinterpretations. According to the interviews and surveys, because of such misinterpretations the transition became quite challenging. Many did not know key stakeholders to lead the transition, their roles and responsibilities and when a transition phase is considered complete.

The ART Launch checklist was improved in order to fill in the gaps identified in this study. The improved version contains details for a smooth transition such as where are we, who are involved, what tasks to accomplish and how to mark tasks as complete.

The tool is a bare minimum requirement for the transition. It is important that SAFe principles and Lean Agile mindset is embraced by every member of the organization especially the transition leaders. Communication and collaboration with the team are the key values that are essential during any transition. It is important to remember that the team are the main movers of the organization. They will bring forth the success and failure of the whole transition, so it is important to communicate with them as early as possible the transition.
