Abstract
Knowledge management has been previously identified as one of the main contributors in the achievement of LANDBANK's medium-term plan.
To achieve this goal, a knowledge management system (KMS) has been identified as one of the major opportunities for improvement that it is critically needed by the Bank.
Consequently, to fully understand and define the needs of the Bank for a KMS, this study was conducted to assess and define the requirements needed to successfully design and establish a knowledge management system in the organization. Moreover, this will serve as an initial basis for the preparation of the business case of the project.
To comprehensively gather the needed business requirements of the system, a conceptual framework on critical knowledge management issues (i.e. information, technology and culture) was adopted and utilized.
The data was gathered based on five sources : survey of internal employees; recommendations from the business excellence strategy workshop, benchmarking with external resource persons; interview of internal subject matter experts; and the evaluation of existing systems.
The results of the data gathering further reiterated the need for the implementation of a KMS within the organization. Conclusions and recommendations were then made based on the requirements of the KMS. Lastly, these were integrated through a high level implementation plan which established the next steps in the establishment of the KMS.
