Abstract

In this day and age, the world is at point where connectivity has become a huge part of many cultures. People are at the edge of a new technological revolution. This revolution is called the "Internet-of-Things" (IoT).

IoT has been the mainstream trend in the digital world. It is the latest buzz in every technology revolution, conference or product launch. Indeed-- "IoT is fueling innovation in nearly every part of our daily lives." (Intel, 2017).

This is the main inspiration of the researcher, -- to do an assessment on the adoption and conduct a market foresight study of IoT consumer wearables in the Philippines. So far, the country's wearable adoption is still at the infancy stage compared to other countries where the adoption rate is picking up at a steady pace.

This study was intended to : assess the Philippines' level of awareness and adoption rate for IoT consumer wearables; check and compare the country's wearable adoption rate with other countries, -- specifically Asian countries; and discover the factors that are affecting the current adoption rate, as well as the factors that will greatly affect the future adoption rate. The study seeks to uncover possible value propositions that will help boost the Filipinos' wearable adoption rate. Last, to look ahead if the Philippine wearable market will either grow or will just survive to survive, to foresee if consumer wearables will eventually become a necessity or remain a fad.

At the end of this project paper, several use cases or scenarios are presented to possibly help speed up the country's adoption rate, and give valuable insights or suggestions to those who are or will enter the business of IoT consumer wearables in the Philippines.
