Abstract
The economic prosperity brought by the air transportation has improved the living standards of a nation especially on developing countries such as the Philippines. Air transportation is a medium that can connect the nation internationally and domestically. Citizens can now fly more frequently whether for business or for leisure.
The demand for air transportation is projected to increase in the coming years. A challenge that the Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) needed to address to reduce air traffic congestion, delay and bad environmental effects of airborne holding in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
As a cost-effective solution, airports around the globe uses highly sophisticated equipment to help manage congestion. Here in Manila, the NEC server is used by ATFM in the pre-tactical phase of the operation. This is a 25 million equipment donated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 2010.
The study aims to understand the efficiency of the NEC server's capability in transforming data used in the ground delay program (GDP). The NEC server's capability will be evaluated through its key performance indicator (KPI) using technological audit and technology learning.
This paper will serve as a guide in understanding the importance of ATFM's role, the advantage of GDP used to reduce air traffic congestion and the capability of the NEC server. Towards the end of this paper, analysis will be given on the airport congestion and recommendation on how ATFM can improve and transform into an integrated body with its equipment and stakeholders, moving towards a better data management system while satisfying the mission and vision of the ATFM department.
