Abstract
In the emerging trend of software development, bottleneck point is commonly pointed to be in one of its phases, the testing. This is with the desire to ensure quality of the applications being developed. In order to overcome this issue, companies are deploying various test automation tools and robots that will speed up the testing process. These tools primarily execute the testing processes automatically with minimal to no manual interventions.
This study aims to assess the future of test automation and RPA in the testing industry. It will provide simulations of the future with great considerations on the current trends in the testing industry. It will also assess these simulations to know the possible impact of this events to the technology in case it happened in the future.
This study is a case of technology foresight using scenario building. Consideration on various predictable and nonpredictable variables, combined with the assessment of its level of importance and uncertainty will lead to the creation of the scenarios that will project the future of automation and RPA in the software testing industry.
Scenario building stages followed in this study are the following :
1. Identifying the focal issue, objectives, time frame and participants
2. Environmental Analysis
3. Identifying and characterizing key predictable variables
4. Identifying critical uncertainties
5. Clustering variables
6. Ranking of variables to establish key driving forces
7. Selection of scenario logics
8. Development of scenario
9. Assessment of scenario coherence
10. Assessment of implication of scenarios for strategic planning
These stages are combined with SWOT analysis to further analyze the impact of the technology to the future of the testing industry in the Philippines.
At the end, conclusions and recommendations are presented pointing the achievement of the goals set in this study.
