Executive Summary
Quezon City (QC) is the largest city in the country with 15,359 hectares of sprawling land and a heterogeneous population of approximately 2.76 million this year according to the World Population Review USA. The local government presented the city tourism brand in September 2017 as reported by Business Mirror to be comparable to Singapore in terms of investment opportunities, number of existing and potential destinations, education and technology.
The study aims to present the current technologies that are significant to the green tourism promotion in the city as well as understanding the challenges that can pose threat to the growth of the industry. The QC government must also be prepared on how to manage and adapt the impact of technological advancements. The framework presents the assessment of green tourism using environmental scanning thru STEEP trend analysis as a tool to allow us to think and position ourselves in the future.
The results gathered from the external environment analysis highlighted the importance of social and cultural behavior towards the development of QC tourism. Public and stakeholder's consistent support are vital to ensure the success of the tourism development plans.
Issues in environmental sustainability and carbon footprint reduction technologies emanated from the study as the fundamental factors to consider in the creation of a green city destination. The world has already seen the devastating effects of global warming and climate change. The foresight is how to consider green technologies and practices that make a positive impact in the achievement of the city's plan.
The economic and political factors are generally favorable to the city's tourism plans. These areas are interrelated and provide tourism establishments the option to choose which areas to pursue. The identification of recommendations at the end of the study hopes to support the QC Tourism Development Plan (QCTDP) and ensure its readiness as a world-class destination today and onwards to the future.
